Ca’ Marcello

Ca’ Marcello: the secret charm of the villa lifestyle, where the noble owners live and welcome guests from five centuries…

Ca ‘Marcello, a splendid 16th-century Venetian Villa, was enlarged, fully decorated and furnished in the 18th century. Thanks to the passion of the owners, the villa impresses with the perfect state of conservation of all the original furnishings, art objects, frescoes and impressive Venetian stucco works.

The harmonious Italian-style garden and the large English-style park surround the main house, giving it balance and peace. This property was always a private residence, and is still inhabited by the Counts Marcello, guardians of his stories, numerous anecdotes and ancient traditions.

Interiors

Inside, the villa is largely embellished with furniture, curtains, objects d’art and decorations made or purchased specifically for this mansion in the 1700s. The noble floor is enriched by five large frescoes by Giovanni Battista Crosato, an influential eighteenth-century artist of European fame. The central halls are imposing and majestic, spread over two floors, connected by a splendid staircase. The ballroom on the upper floor is particularly rich and bright: the frescoes show scenes from the life of Alexander the Great and are framed by stuccoes and appliques, while the entire ceiling depicts the Olympus with its mythical gods.

Gardens and centuries-old park

The centuries old park of Ca’ Marcello is divisible in two architectural areas: the Italian style garden and the English style park. On its whole, the park covers 90,000 sq.m. and surrounds the villa on all sides. It was created in the mid XVIII century, when the villa underwent architectural changes which are still visible today.

The Marcello family

The noble Venetian Marcello family has among its members two Doges, the famous composer Benedetto Marcello and many admirals (Capitani da Mar), protagonists of the history of the Venetian Republic.
